The existing building was a drab and inefficient four-storey structure dating from the 1960s, so our first intent was to create a place with a more active presence on the street, intensified through a mix of uses. While we often work with structures ‘as found’, in this case a full demolition of the building presented the best route.
The new six-storey building has an efficient core and two entrances to cater for split tenancies of the office space. On the upper levels, we replaced the old cellular offices with simple, open floorplates with substantial floor to ceiling heights, and stacked two levels of residential units above.
