Our refurbishment and reconfiguration of the five-storey building thus matches the building’s neighbours with elegant, refined design and the use of high-quality materials and finishes. Internally, our key moves involved rationalising the plan to create much improved office space with modernised services and increased natural light, achieved by removing existing internal partitions and chimneys, and created a new WC and stair core by infilling a rear lightwell.
We also refurbished and enlarged the café and retail space at ground floor where we also added a link between ground and basement floors, where new commuter facilities are placed. The café’s new traditional timber shopfront matches the aesthetic of the design of neighbouring shopfronts along the surrounding streets.
Externally, we paired the historic façade of the building and extended the café/retail space to improve the relationship and visibility between the street and the ground floor. New glazing to the retail unit improves the building’s relationship with the street whilst at the rear we have discreetly introduced a new extension, clad with white glazed bricks to match the existing rear façade.
