Aitch Group and Aldridge Security

2020

In contrast to other developments in London’s inner boroughs, this scheme safeguards a long-standing local business as well as opening up space for residents and tenants new to the neighbourhood.

As in many areas of London’s rapidly gentrifying inner boroughs, the buildings on Eagle Wharf Road represent a mix of uses from light industrial warehouses through to social housing and newer residential and live-work developments. One of our clients for this project, Aldridge Security, have been owner and occupier of the plot at 32-34 Eagle Wharf Road for forty years.

Aldridge Security wanted to safeguard local jobs, so working in partnership with Aitch Group, they ensured that their wholesale business remained here as well as freeing up part of the site for commercial development. We replaced their two existing warehouses with a new L-shaped building with workspaces for creative tenants across four floors and 36 new homes. The project draws inspiration from the industrial character of the area in its materials and robust, almost monolithic, aesthetic.
