Ambika House

London

Established & Sons

2014

In a neighbourhood better known for distinguished institutions and nineteenth-century architecture, we drew from a diverse range of influences to design a surprisingly contemporary family home for the chairman of a leading furniture brand.

The penthouse apartment sits at the top of Ambika House, a modernist building which was originally built in 1964 as a student hostel. A strong contrast with its older neighbours, it now has a mix of office floors at the lower levels and residential space above.

Our design was inspired by the clean simplicity and abundant light of Californian Case Study houses, as well as the diverse interests of our client, the chairman of furniture brand Established & Sons. Even in this inner city location, the windows and rooflights give a strong connection between inside and out.
