Ask Restaurants Ltd

2003

Delivered in just a matter of weeks, this restaurant concept demonstrates that a few well-chosen details can communicate volumes about a brand.

Jo Shmo is a relaxed, American-style restaurant developed by the creators of Ask, the high-end pizza chain. Ask came to us seeking a full concept for the new restaurant, covering the entire design from concept to layout, through to the services, furniture and lighting, with a view to building it out across several branches.

The project was notable for its very rapid programme: there were just 20 weeks between the initial brief and the opening of the first Jo Shmo restaurant. As a result we kept the palette simple, creating memorable points of focus which would communicate the youthful feel of the brand.

"One of its Unique Selling Points, according to the manager, is the 'toilet concept'. Vaguely themed after the musical Grease, in that the soundtrack is playing, there is a hole in the wall over both sets of sinks so that boys and girls can talk to each other while washing their hands."
