Located in Antwerp’s Diamantkwartier and opposite the Stadspark, Mercure Antwerp City Central is a 128-room hotel comprising a 24-hour gym, lounge bar, restaurant, and 100-person conference suite with four meeting rooms. For its design, we wanted to respond to Antwerp as an centre for artistic energy and patronage, as the home of some of the world’s finest master painters such as Rubens, Brueghel and Van Gogh and in the twentieth century the Antwerp Six - one of the most influential group of designers in fashion.
A rich and intense palette was used in the lobby with Antwerp Blue panelled walls and deep burgundy vertical tiled retail area and stitched faux leather reception desk. Patterned fabric is used alongside solid oak framed panels on the walls, acting both decoratively and acoustically.
A lighter, fresher palette emerged in the hotel's new breakfast room and bistro – Lunet - with glazed ceramic tiles are placed along the bar’s front, with suspended globe pendant lights and bentwood chairs, a contemporary production of the classic bistro chairs found across Europe.
