By reprogramming an iconic mid-century chocolate factory - a distinctive element of Bristol's streetscape for decades - with a new mix of uses, we have knitted it back into the urban grain.

The curved, eight-storey structure of the old Fry's factory sits on Pithay, one of several narrow streets in the neighbourhood which date back to medieval times.

Our strategy was to redevelop the 180,000sqft building with a ‘village’ of new uses, these differing programmes – innovation, art, business and media – helping to break down its large scale and presence, knitting it back into the tight streetscape.

The building is arranged with fully refurbished office space placed on the upper floors. We added new services and finishes throughout, taking full advantage of the building’s sweeping form and mid-century charm.

"Programme is the facility for a new Bristol generation to successfully realise bold and progressive ideas. Through a proud refurbishment of an iconic mid-century building in the city centre, we are creating a range of spaces for culture and commerce to prosper."
