The Boundary Building

London

Brooksplace

2014

Like many Shoreditch projects, this refurbishment has given an abandoned building a new lease of life. Less typical is our retention of the building’s original character and spirit.

Originally known as Valiant House, the building on Shoreditch High Street was used for many years by security firm Securicor to monitor the movements of its vehicles. Subsequently vacated, it became a mecca for illegal raves and parties during the 1990s as Shoreditch became the creative capital of Europe.

Our key moves were to rationalise the building: in plan by infilling the rear of the building, and in elevation by adding two new floors above the existing one. In this way we created a double aspect, mixed use scheme which combines shops, offices and homes.
